MartyParty in Minneapolis

Photo Credit: Brittnie Kelly / @purpdino

MartyParty made his debut solo performance in Minneapolis last Friday (Sept. 16th, 2011), almost two years to the day since his last performance in the area (at that time playing with Ooah as PANTyRAID).  In the interim, 507 caught Marty earlier this year at the Double Door in Chicago for the Monsters of Bass tour, where his set had a much stronger emphasis on dubstep.  His recent solo performance in Minneapolis, on the other hand, was a consummate showcase of his purple stylings, while still serving the audience crushing dubstep (as provided in one of his latest tracks, Ice Cream Truck) in true Marty fashion.

MartyParty to Paint Minneapolis Purple

MartyParty (Martin Folb) makes his debut performance in Minneapolis September 16th at the Barfly/Loft, brought to you by Twin Cities Dubstep.  Marty played in Minneapolis in 2009 along with Ooah as the audio-girlfriend-fondling act, PANTyRAID, but this is his first solo performance in the area.

MartyParty is renown for ushering the “purple opera” sound into the electronic music scene.  If you haven’t heard of the purple sub-genre of dubstep, it is a lush synth/bass-heavy experience that pushes the music into higher realms of emotional and spiritual climates than typically addressed by artists.  To learn more about Marty’s purple stylings, read our review of his 2010 EP, Skukuza, and watch our video shot earlier this year in Chicago when we ventured there for the Monsters of Bass tour.

Performing with Marty is Profresher (Billy Blacklight), Fidelity and Beaker.  See all you purple-bass eaters there.
