When Ana Sia came to Minneapolis last June, she posited a question on Facebook…something to the effect of, “Hey Minneapolis! I’m coming home to play the Loft of Friday and want to know what you want to hear. Should I a) play dubstep and stuff I have been playing or b) should I play some brand new bass nasty I’ve been getting down on?” The overwhelming response was “B, B, B, B!” and when Friday came she proceeded to drop that new new on her hometown crowd…to great, great effect. Pretty sure I heard no dubstep in her set, much to my satisfaction.
Ana’s latest free mix, Tanlines, takes a page out of that recent Minneapolis performance and it is quite relieving—thank god there are producers/DJs out there that are not obliged to incessantly play BWAAAH-BWEE-BWEE-NAH-NAH-NAH-NA-NAAAAN-WOMP WOMP [insert robot clusterfunk sounds here] dubstep at every show. Just some good ol’ bass-driven beats, courtesy of the wonderful Ana Sia.
