Sharing Words and Music with Bartlomein

Bartlomein first caught 507projex's fancy last year after hearing his track "Average Looking Cookies" on his SoundCloud page (we ask him about it in just a minute). With a little prodding, he made it available for download. Funking right, that's dedication to fans! Some months and a brand new decade later, Bartlomein was down with playing the ol' Q&A game with 507 and to talk about his latest hit, "Smash".

507projex: How long have you been producing music?

Bartlomein: I've been producing music on and off for about 6 yrs. Got seriously into it 2 years ago.

507: What instruments/software are you using at the moment?

Bartlomein: Ableton live, NI Komplete 6, Korg Radias, anything in real life that makes some sort of cool noise, and I've recently started dabbling in max for live.

507: The first song I ever heard from you was “Average Looking Cookies”, a glitch-intensive hit that really defines my interpretation of the current state of glitch-hop. What were you going for in that track, and where did the name come from?

Bartlomein: That track evolved from the main bassline that you can hear in that song. I really wanted something bassy that was rhythmic and eccentric. The name of the track came from a link that Ooah from The Glitch Mob posted on on twitter. It was supposed to be a link to a Glitch Mob promo vid but it linked to a picture of some crappy looking cookies. That was the same day I finished the song, so I decided to name it that.

507: Your latest track to flood the 507 offices, “Smash”, continues to exhibit your mastery over your sound and opens it up a bit to a more grandiose, virtuoso style. Where do you see your sound going in 2010?

Bartlomein: I have no idea really. I want to take people to a different place where bass, beats, and synth melodies intertwine in psychedelic tango. Whatever that sound will be, that's where I'm going with it.

Press play on "Smash" now:

507: You’re from North Jerz…What do you think about that reality show Jersey Shore (if you’ve seen any of it)?

Bartlomein: I hate that shit. Some people that i know watch it and say just funny cuz its stupid. I watched 2 mins of it and didn't even find it funny. Its retarted in my opinion haha. I see those people in real life cuz guidos are very prominent around my area.

507: Don't worry, we hate that show too! Who is a producer/artist that has caught your ear lately?

Bartlomein: Edison. That guy is a machine.

507: Strangest thing you’ve eaten?

Bartlomein: My grandmother's home made pierogies. Best munchies killer in the western hemisphere.

507: Have to Google that one...Strangest place you’ve been?

Bartlomein: Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. The chillest place on earth.

507: What else is in store for 2010?

Bartlomein: I've started working with GDP a lil bit, nasty underground hip hop from jersey, trying to get more shows, and creating as much music as I possible can.

507: Anything else?

Bartlomein: Shoutout to my boy Mikey Likes It for getting me into all this shit when he showed up at my doorstep with a tiny piece of paper one day. We've been working together forever now it seems. Def check him out! And a shoutout to the whole Glitch.FM crew, especially Sugarpill who is the 1st person ever to play a track made by me on the radio, and Doktor Krank for being my Polish blog hookup. "Dziekuje serdecznie!" Many thanks!
