Sexy Purple Opera: MartyParty's SKUKUZA EP
MartyParty's (Martin Folb) debut EP, SKUKUZA, is a purple music space ride.
Purple music, or purple opera, is what Mr. Folb has coined his soundscape and is epitomized in his latest effort, SKUKUZA. The journey leads the listener through quadrants of electronic music that any PANTyRAID fan would recognize and call home. SKUKUZA is a natural progression from the styling of his work with Josh Mayer (OOAH from The Glitch Mob), with the infusion of PANTyRAID's lush dubsteppery and the ethereal majesty of his own creation, Marty elevates his music beyond earthly musings into the deep thought cosmos.
Describing music as purple, or the performance of said music as a purple opera, is odd. However, after imbibing the half dozen tracks of SKUKUZA, there is no better descriptor. Purple, a dark, warm color, is soft and gentle, and was also traditionally a color reserved for royalty; a regal and austere hue. Opera, the grandiose balance of song, theater and dance, a high form of art proper. Combine the two, and Folb's sonic vision realizes; materializes a palette of electronic music sensibilities with which he paints bass nasty lullabies, using shows, festivals, living rooms, cars and earbuds as a canvas and coating the listeners in purple oil pigment, the signatory watermark that comprises MartyParty's coat of arms. If 507projex used a rating system, SKUKUZA falls somewhere between "Grab this ASAP" and "If this isn't in your iTunes, your house party is changing venues."
MartyParty's SKUKUZA EP is available December 15th at all major online retailers, and is just an initial foray of ambientstep coming from Mr. Folb in the next few fortnights. Catch up with him on his official website.
